Poly (Lactic Acid)/Ground Tire Rubber Blends Using Peroxide Vulcanization

Poly (Lactic Acid) (PLA)/Ground Tire Rubber (GTR) blends using Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a crosslinking agent were prepared with the following aims: propose new route to recycle wastes rubber from automotive industry and improve toughness impact strength of inherently brittle bio-based PLA. The GTR subjected two types grinding process (cryo- dry ambient grinding). Swelling measurements revealed be associated mechanical damage chains, independently on type or size (from <400 µm <63 µm). Moreover, finest contains largest amount reinforcing elements (carbon black, clay) that can advantageously used in PLA/GTR blends. Indeed, use cryo-grinded presence DCP showed least decrease tensile (?30%); maintenance modulus improvement strain at break (+80%), energy (+60%) (+90%) compared neat results attributed good dispersion both fine clay particles into PLA matrix. possible re-crosslinking and/or co-crosslinking interface is expected contribute such improved ductility strength.
